Deciding your limits: before you start
The most useful control a reader has is the one set before any money moves. Decide the amount you are willing to spend in the way you might decide the price of a ticket to an event: once paid, it is spent, whether or not the evening goes the way you hoped. Treating a gambling budget the same way removes the temptation to see a loss as money still in play. Fix the figure first, and stop when it is reached, rather than judging in the moment whether "one more" is reasonable.
Chasing a loss is the pattern most worth watching for: increasing a stake to recover an earlier one usually turns a planned amount into an unplanned one. The practical answer is to treat each session as closed once the original budget is gone, not to reopen it because the next bet feels certain. Keeping gambling money separate from money set aside for bills or borrowed from elsewhere protects the rest of your finances from a decision made under pressure. Breaks help for the same reason a pause helps any decision made with money: stepping away for a few minutes, or coming back another day, restores the perspective that a long session erodes.
If gambling stops feeling like entertainment and starts feeling necessary, involve someone else early — a friend, a family member, or one of the independent organisations below. Raising it early, while the amounts involved are still small, is far more manageable than waiting until it is not.
Where account controls actually live: at the destination
Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion are all things a reader sets up inside an account with an operator. This site has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch one of those controls on, check whether it is active, or enforce it. Each of the ten operator listings on this site ends with the same line: check availability and the current terms at the destination before claiming anything, because eligibility rules and terms apply there and can change without notice.
Age is treated the same way. Nobody's age is verified on this site, and no gambling takes place on it. The eighteen-and-over restriction appears throughout this build, including on the front page and at the end of every operator listing, but any actual check of age happens at the destination, after an operator link is followed. From the moment a reader leaves this site through one of those links, the destination's own rules, checks and account controls apply — not anything published here. There is no advertising or behavioural profiling network built into these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader based on prior behaviour.
Independent help: three organisations
Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: begambleaware.org, gamblingtherapy.org and gamcare.org.uk. These are the only outbound links on the whole site that are not commercial. Unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when a reader follows one of them.
Those three links are the full extent of what this page can point to. This page cannot list an address, a telephone number, or a description of what each organisation does beyond being an independent source of help, because none of that is part of what this build verifies. It cannot promise that help is free, confidential, or available at any particular hour, and it cannot claim to run a support team or counselling service of its own — it does not. What it can confirm is where those three links sit: on this page, and on every other page of the site, ready to be followed independently of anything else here.
